Para-sexiphenyl-CdSe/ZnS nanocrystal hybrid light emitting diodes

Abstract: CdSe/ZnS core/shell nanocrystals (NCs) are integrated into para-sexiphenyl (p-6P) based hybrid light emitting diodes, to obtain green and red emission in addition to blue emission originated from p-6P. For the active region of the devices, ultrathin layers of p-6P and NCs are deposited by hot wall epitaxy and spin casting, respectively, resulting in current-voltage characteristics with small leakage currents and low onset voltages. The achieved electroluminescence exhibits narrow emission line widths and thus … Show more

“…The emission spectrum is composed of several peaks with the maximum of the highest peak located at 425 nm. The spectra match the typical EL spectrum previously reported for PSP [27, 37], therefore, in our OLEDs, the PSP emission is not affected by the presence of the PPNB:PVK layer. Furthermore, the I–V characteristics of this OLED is presented in Fig.…”

“…Electro-optical characterization showed homogeneous deep-blue emission, exhibiting CIE color coordinates of x ¼ 0:18 and y ¼ 0:11, which is close to the National Television System Committee (NTSC) blue color standard (x ¼ 0:14 and y ¼ 0:08) [15]. In addition, color stability, low losses and a low leakage current of the device could be demonstrated.…”

“…The ITO surface is very smooth, exhibiting a rms roughness of 1.18 nm. PEDOT layers have been deposited on top to improve band alignment and injection as reported for a similar small molecule-based OLED (para-hexaphenyl) [15]. The PEDOT surface exhibits a rms roughness of 7.7 nm.…”

“…[10][11][12] Moreover, PSP is a very promising candidate as an electroactive layer in OLED displays due to its blue luminescence ͑E g = 3.1 eV͒ and high quantum yield ͑30%͒. [13][14][15][16] Interestingly, waveguiding and coherent random laser action, providing threshold fluences as low as 0.5 J / cm 2 , have also been observed in single and an arrangement of nanofibers. [17][18][19][20] As a consequence of the crystalline arrangement of PSP within the fibers, the absorbance and photoluminescence ͑PL͒ of the films strongly depend on the polarization of the incidence light relative to the transition dipole of the molecules.…”
