Parallel and Multivalued Logic by the Two-Dimensional Photon-Echo Response of a Rhodamine–DNA Complex

Abstract: Implementing parallel and multivalued logic operations at the molecular scale has the potential to improve the miniaturization and efficiency of a new generation of nanoscale computing devices. Two-dimensional photon-echo spectroscopy is capable of resolving dynamical pathways on electronic and vibrational molecular states. We experimentally demonstrate the implementation of molecular decision trees, logic operations where all possible values of inputs are processed in parallel and the outputs are read simulta… Show more

“…Two key high-risk / high-reward pioneering elements are the quantum engineered coherent concatenation of units and the multidirectional optical detection. [4,5] and tailored nanosystems [6,7] in self-assembled arrays of increasing complexity [8,9,10], integration into a device and novel hardware and matched compilers [11,12] will be delivered. Preliminary experimental demonstrations of the response of solutions and of engineered nanoarray films are available as is the validation of logic operation in parallel.…”

“…The gate voltage variations are a strong perturbation on the system because the denominator in Vijeff can go through 0. As a result, there is no limitation by selection rules as is the case when a weak laser pulse is used to address a molecular system …”

“…[33][34][35] However, the processing and scaling of DNA computing systems are still challenging issues. Past efforts addressed these problems by designing reversible logic gates, 36,37 switching circuits, 38 continuous multivalued logic, 39 multiplexer-demultiplexer systems 40,41 and the construction of multilayer input-output logic gates. [42][43][44] Also, the use of twodimensional and three-dimensional DNA objects revealing shape complementarity or localized signal propagation could provide means to enhance computational efficacy.…”
