Parallel domain decomposition based distributed state estimation for large-scale power systems

Abstract: Growing system sizes and complexity along with the large amount of data provided by phasor measurement units (PMUs) are the drivers to accurate state estimation algorithms for online monitoring and operation of power systems. In this paper a distributed weighted least square (WLS) state estimation method using additive Schwarz domain decomposition technique is proposed to reduce the computational execution time. The proposed approach divides the data set into several subsets to be processed in parallel using a… Show more

“…Other alternative filtering algorithms to EKF for PSSE have also been developed, including the iterative Kalman filter [34], the unscented Kalman filter [35], [36], the particle filter [37], the robust filter [38], the disturbance filter [33], [39], the adaptive filter [40], [41] and the filter for joint estimation of state and parameter [42], [43]. Moreover, to speed up the estimation algorithm applied in large-scale power grids, parallel EKF-based dynamic state estimator has been proposed in [44]- [46]. In addition, computational intelligence tools (e.g.…”

“…There is a wealth of research related to the power system state estimation. To begin with, a distributed weighted least square state estimation method using additive Schwarz domain decomposition technique is proposed in [11]. This decomposition divides the data set into several subsets to reduce the execution time.…”

“…Critical infrastructures are highly complex systems that utilize cyber and physical components in their daily operations. The backbone of these facilities consists of an Industrial Control System..(ICS), which plays an important role in the monitoring and control of critical infrastructures such as smart power grids, oil and gas, aerospace, and transportation [1], [2]. Therefore, the safety and security of ICSs are paramount for national security.…”
