Parallel phase-shifting self-interference digital holography with faithful reconstruction using compressive sensing

Abstract: We present a new self-interference digital holographic approach that allows single-shot capturing threedimensional intensity distribution of the spatially incoherent objects. The Fresnel incoherent correlation holographic microscopy is combined with parallel phaseshifting technique to instantaneously obtain spatially multiplexed phase-shifting holograms. The compressivesensing-based reconstruction algorithm is implemented to reconstruct the original object from the under sampled demultiplexed holograms. The sc… Show more

“…To implement a snapshot of 3D images or record 3D movies, a single-shot technique is promising. Although many single-shot techniques have been proposed [13,34,[46][47][48][49][50][51], utilizing dual-phase gratings works with any image sensor in principle, which is useful for optimizing an optical setup with respect to cost, robustness to noise, frame rate, pixel pitch, quantization level, and the number of pixels. By improving light utilization efficiency and reducing the noise, FINCH would be a significant technology for the imaging and measurement community.…”

“…A recent variant uses a parallel phase-shifting technique to obtain spatially multiplexed phase-shifting holograms simultaneously. 44 A future and logical extension is single photon imaging where each incident photon is recorded in a ultralow-light imaging setup. Albeit the state, the state of research is currently at the numerical simulation stage.…”

“…A demonstration for holographic color acquisitions has been conducted in simulation, using the Shepp-Logan phantom image. 44 In the simple self-interference incoherent digital holography (SIDH), a curved mirror is used to deform the object wavefield so that the interference of this artificially modulated wavefront and the original planar wavefronts is recorded. This self-interference imaging modality is close in concept to differential digital holography where the interference of the wavefront with a shifted version of itself is recorded.…”

“…Fresnel incoherent correlation holography (FINCH) is one of the well-established incoherent digital holography techniques [1,2] developed by Rosen and Brooker. In FINCH, the hologram of an object is recorded using the self-interference principle, where both interfering waves are object waves derived from the same object but modulated differently from one another by quadratic phase masks (QPMs) with different focal distances [3][4][5] . Three holograms are recorded in FINCH with pre-calculated phase differences between the two interfering object waves and superimposed to generate a complex hologram.…”
