Parameter estimation in dynamic plane source method

Abstract: The paper reports on the measurement of thermophysical properties (thermal conductivity and diffusivity) of PMMA (polymethylmethacrylate). The theory of the dynamic plane heat source method and the experimental apparatus are discussed. Both the sensitivity coefficients and difference analysis are used for searching the time interval in which the measured data can be evaluated. Besides, the influence of the heater and heat losses from the lateral sides of the sample and also the influence of the noise are studi… Show more

“…Previous works on the former aspect focused on the sensitivity of the input parameters and the data fitting procedure based on the original analytical model, but could not explain the overestimation of k in TI materials. [21][22][23][24][25][26] In the latter aspect, several publications investigated the accuracy and performance of commercial TPS devices based on numerical simulations to study the effect of the sensors on the TPS measurement for bulk or thin film 20,[27][28][29][30][31] and the error due to thermal radiation in semitransparent sample. 17,33 However, these researches provide no systematic investigation on the sensor geometric parameters and sample thermal properties.…”

“…In case of the best fit, the thermal conductivity λ will be determined. The method of fitting based on the least-squares procedure was described in detail (Malinarič, 2004a;Malinarič, 2007b).…”

“…Parameter β defines imperfect heat transfer, and ierfc is an integral of error function. Values of thermal conductivity λ and characteristic time θ are gathered using the parametric fitting of real measured dependence of temperature on time using equation (1) [38]. Subsequently, thermal diffusivity coefficient is calculated using equation (2).…”
