Parameter Estimation of Maneuvering Target Using Maximum Likelihood Estimation for MIMO Radar with Colocated Antennas

Abstract: The estimation of target parameters in MIMO radar signal processing is one of the most important research topics. An efficient implementation of the Maximum Likelihood estimator is presented in this paper to estimate the DOA (Direction of Arrival), initial velocity and acceleration of a maneuvering target in colocated MIMO radar. The target's DOA is estimated in the first place, then a Maximum-Likelihood (ML) estimation based on peak search is applied to a two-dimensional grids providing estimation of initial … Show more

“…In the studies of Li and Stoica (2007), Guerci et al (2008), Grossi et al (2010), Jin et al (2010), De Maio and Lops (2007), theoretical investigations about the MIMO radar system have been presented. In the studies of Deng (2012) and Li et al (2017), the use of different orthogonal waveforms for implementing the MIMO radar system showed significant performance improvement in finding the direction of arrival (DOA) and estimation of Doppler shifts. Sammartino et al (2012) addressed the issue of phase discontinuity in MIMO radar systems both theoretically and practically.…”

“…Also the use of point source antennas in MIMO system simplifies the implementation of the system. In (Deng, 2012) and (WANG and LU, 2009) and (Li, Xu, and Zhang, 2017) and (Daoud, 2015) a different orthogonal waveforms were used to implement a MIMO radar system and they showed significant performance improvement in finding the Direction of Arrival (DOA) and estimation of Doppler shifts.…”
