“…This indicates that spectral irradiance corrections for monsoon of the Indian climate require cloud modifiers [33,34]. The simple sinusoidal (AM-based) corrections such as Berman et al [30] and King et al [35] or cloudless transfer models [36] may introduce a bias, which could mislead analysis or simulation results.…”

“…The water vapor column was 2.96 cm in the DAK model and 2.92 cm in SMARTS, which could cause the irradiance to be slightly smaller in DAK, however it could not be larger than 1 W/m 2 for all the water vapor absorption bands. The SMARTS H 2 O absorption coefficients are parameterized from MODTRAN, while MODTRAN absorption calculations are based on HITRAN 1992 [5] . Although the correlated k-distribution used in the DAK model is also based on the HITRAN 1992, probably there are some differences in the H 2 O absorption coefficients.…”

“…Then the wavelength dependence of AOT is parameterized as a function of RH and aerosol type. The single scattering albedo is also parameterized as a function of wavelength and RH [5] . This can be the main reason for the differences in the diffuse irradiances.…”

“…Our mean coastal DMS photo-oxidation rate constant, k DMS , was 1.0 d À1 , 2-fold and 5-fold lower than our means for the lower and upper estuary, respectively (Table 4). To scale our mean rate constants to the daily mean solar irradiance in our study area in July we multiplied our mean k DMS values by (i) the mean ratio of k DMS from sunlight irradiations to that determined under artificial light (R(Sun/Sim) ¼ 1.43), and (ii) the ratio of daily global clear sky irradiance (317 W m À2 ) to the average global clear sky irradiance (775 W m À2 ) from SMARTS2 (Gueymard, 2001) over the duration of our sunlight irradiations. The scaled DMS photo-oxidation rate constants, k 0 DMS (Table 4), were approximately 2-fold lower than the unscaled values from our laboratory irradiations, but still equal to or exceeding the median daily DMS photo-oxidation rate constants for river-influenced coastal surface waters (0.58 d À1 ; Galí et al (2016)).…”
