Parameters of DC high-speed circuit-breakers

Abstract: DC high-speed circuit-breakers (HSCB) are the basic protection to cut off short-circuit and overload currents. People’s and railway infrastructure devices’ safety depend on their reliability and parameters. High-speed circuit-breakers, like any other electrical devices, display several electrical and mechanical characteristic parameters, which in many cases are interconnected. The article features these parameters of DC high-speed circuit-breakers that affect the operation safety of electric traction power sup… Show more

“…The latency and resources required by RF model are significantly small compared with those for preprocessing due to its inherently parallel structure and logic operations used inside rather than other complex operations. The total latency for calculating a 100-step sample is around 6 ms within which the breakers can successfully cut off the fault circuit [35].…”

“…An arc ignites between the contacts, whose voltage is very low in relation to the voltage supplying the circuit U d . The time from t 1 to t 2 is called the contact arcing time t s [11,12].…”

“…The t s time is not defined in the standards, however, it has a significant impact on the breaking time [13]. In [11][12][13], this time was defined as calculated from the moment of opening the contacts (t 1 ) until the arc reaches the voltage u a =0.1 U d . From the moment of t 2 , the arc extends rapidly increasing its voltage to the moment of t 3 , when the arc extinguishes and breaks the current flow.…”

“…The opening time t i depends largely on HSCB construction -the way it is tripped and the mechanism opening the contacts [12,13,15]. The arcing time t a also depends on HSCB construction.…”

“…Many publications have been devoted to issues connected with HSCR and short-circuit breaking, including [1,2,8,9,13,14], and their tests [10,12]. Only some of them deal with the breaking time problem and the correlation between that time and breaker's parameters, as well as circuit's parameters in which the breaker is working.…”
