This article describes the effect of CO 2 LBW performance parameters for the welded joint of 1.5 mm thin sheet of Nimonic 80A superalloy. Superalloy 80A used in high temperature application as aero-engine components-blade, rings, exhaust gas turbine part, nuclear tube support and automobile valve. The study focused on optimizing the welding process for the welded joints. Here, LP, WS, FD, and shielding GR will be optimised to improve the weld quality of Nimnic 80A material. Two different optimization techniques were used. The first method is SOO, which is based on the S/N ratio. The aim of this method is to find the Single-optimal values of process parameters. The second method employed MOO, combining the Taguchi grey relational analysis (TGRA) with the principal component analysis (PCA) technique. The researchers used these methods in an effort to identify the set of parameters for obtaining improved weld quality. Authors find best setting parameters p3-v3-f3-g1, with the specific parameter values are LP 2400 W, WS 1800 mm/min, FD 18 mm, and GR 10 lpm. The optimized parameters have yield significant improvements in the depth of penetration 6.03%, weld bead 8.74%, Vickers hardness 12.5%, and tensile strength 16.48% by using TGRA coupled with PCA.

Electrical discharge machining (EDM) has recently been shown to be one of the most successful unconventional machining methods for meeting the requirements of today’s manufacturing sector by producing complicated curved geometries in a broad variety of contemporary engineering materials. The machining efficiency of an EDM process during hexagonal hole formation on pearlitic Spheroidal Graphite (SG) iron 450/12 grade material was examined in this study utilizing peak current (I), pulse-on time (Ton), and inter-electrode gap (IEG) as input parameters. The responses, on the other hand, were the material removal rate (MRR) and overcut. During the experimental trials, the peak current ranged from 32 to 44 A, the pulse-on duration ranged from 30–120 s, and the inter-electrode gap ranged from 0.011 to 0.014 mm. Grey relational analysis (GRA) was interwoven with a fuzzy logic method to optimize the multi-objective technique that was explored in this EDM process. The effect of changing EDM process parameter values on responses was further investigated and statistically analyzed. Additionally, a response graph and response table were produced to determine the best parametric setting based on the calculated grey-fuzzy reasoning grade (GFRG). Furthermore, predictor regression models for response characteristics and GFRG were constructed, and a confirmation test was performed using randomly chosen input parameters to validate the generated models.

Multi/Multiple-criteria decision-making methods or multiple-criteria decision analysis (MCDA) have a useful contribution to determine the optimal or the best experimental condition for a process. One of the objectives of the presented research is the observation of the effects of the electrical parameters on the material removal rate (MRR) and the electrode wear ratio (EWR) in a meso-scale EDD. The examined electrical parameters are pulse-on/off time, duty cycle/factor and capacitance. Machining results have been investigated by analysis of variance and graphically depending on their main effects. While pulse-on time and duty cycle have statistically significant effect on MRR, pulse-on time, capacitance and duty cycle have significant effect on EWR for the EDD processes. VIKOR, TOPSIS (Technique for Order Preference by Similarity to Ideal Solution) and GRA (Grey Relation Analysis) were used as MCDM methods to determine the optimum machining result in terms of maximum MRR and minimum EWR. MCDM results have been monitored by graphically. Since an inconsistency has been seen between the MCDM results, a second supplementary analysis has been done by Weighted of Sum and Weighted of Product methods. By this way, a better consistency has been provided. Consequentially, it has been seen that the results of the second modifier analysis and the results of VIKOR were closer to each other in terms of specifying the optimal condition for the process. Hole formations were also observed by scanning electron microscopy images in this work. As a result, it has been decided that the minimum pulse-on time and pulse off-time with 50% duty cycle and minimum capacitance inputs gives an optimum output for MRR and EWR in the meso-scale EDD process.
