Parasitism of trees by marmosets (Primates: Callitrichidae) enhance tree turnover

Abstract: 27We tested if gouging by Callithrix jacchus affects tree survival. The proportion of dead 28 gouged trees in forest fragments was higher than the proportion of dead non-gouged 29 trees, with larger effect on smaller trees. The number of holes did not affect tree 30survival. Parasitism of trees by marmosets may enhance forest turnover. 31 32
