Paratesticular Sarcomas in Brazil

Abstract: Purpose: Paratesticular sarcomas are rare and frequently reported as isolated case reports. Studies evaluating the relative frequency of the paratesticular sarcomas are limited, and to the best of our knowledge, this is the first study of paratesticular sarcomas in the Brazilian population. Patients and Methods: Medical records of all patients undergoing treatment for paratesticular sarcomas between 1993 and 2006 were retrieved from the archives of our institution. Results: Complete data from 12 patients (39 ±… Show more

“…Among urological sarcomas, liposarcoma is the second most dominant histological type which is more frequently seen in the vesical and spermatic cord regions as demonstrated in two large series with outcomes similar to our series (Coleman et al, 2003;Spiess et al, 2007). In our series rhabdomyosarcoma was the most frequently seen tumour type in the paratesticular region, which was also confirmed by the outcomes of Korkes et al (2009). On the other hand, in our series higher histological grade was detected in more than 50% of our patients and similarly, in other large urological STS series, higher histological grade appeared to be the dominant type (Dotan et al, 2006;Izumi et al, 2010;Lee et al, 2012;Froehner et al, 2013).…”

“…MTT is at a high risk of disease progression, the high risk of local recurrence demands long-term follow-up, elevated lactic dehydrogenase might also be a marker of retroperitoneal disease and poor prognosis. Improvement in survival requires effective systemic adjuvant therapy [ 11 ]. A multicenter study showed tumor site, size and grade represented the most important prognostic factors in genitourinary sarcomas [ 12 ].…”

“…1,2 Due to the rarity of testicular osteosarcoma, pathogenesis, management, and outcome at long-term follow-up are still unclear. [1][2][3] The three patients, including ours, underwent radical orchiectomy with no adjuvant therapy. These cases illustrate that primary testicular osteosarcoma is associated with a favorable prognosis and inguinal orchiectomy with careful follow-up appears to be sufficient treatment.…”
