This chapter describes an interior and spatial design challenge at the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) at the Royal Brisbane and Women’s Hospital that occurred over the Summer of 2022–23. The QUT Design Lab team worked closely with nurse champions from the NICU to help re-vision how their space could be used more effectively to increase feelings of comfort and belonging, particularly for parents of children in the ward. From a long list of potential design solutions to the many issues faced, a short list of six were developed in detail so that the hospital’s facilities team could implement the proposed solutions to the most pressing concerns.
