One recent study (Fonseca, Nazare, & Canavarro, 2013), found that fathers of children with congenital anomalies in Portugal had somewhat higher levels of knowledge of their child’s needs, motivations, and they had greater parenting confidence than did fathers in a control group whose children were not born with significant health or developmental issues, the reverse was true for the mothers. These authors concluded that fathers of children who are significantly different from themselves may end up more engaged in parenting than other fathers.…”
