A remarkable number o f the ejaculates had reduced sperm qualities, and it is proposed that this might be due to psoriatic lesions in the genital tract.The folic acid antagonist, methotrexate (MTX), gained after the discovery by G ubner [3] a widespread use in the treatment of severe psoriasis.Early studies revealed that this treatment might give hematologic problems and that the drug should only be used in patients having a normal kidney and liver function [6,11,12,14].Warnings against giving MTX to women who could be expected to get pregnant, or to men with fertile partners, have been advanced by F rank et al [ 1] and G ünther [4], An unfavorable effect on the reproduction ability in men might be revealed as a qualitative or quantitative alteration of the spermiogenesis. In the first case the influence could be demonstrated by an increased number of immobile and/or abnormal spermatozoa.…”

Elaborate models of metho trexate metabolism have been proposed [Zaharko et al, 1971;Bischoff et al, 1971], Daily dosage schedules should have been abandoned in the light of clinical confirmation of the theoretical expectation [Van Scott et al, 1964] that intermittent (i.e. weekly) therapy is less hepatotoxic and no less effective [Dahl et al, 1972;Almeyda et al, 1972].…”

Das gleiche gilt für die proxim ale Dünn-darmschleimhaiit mit einer kurzen Um satzzeit von 2 Tagen [3], W e nige Stunden nach M ethotrexate finden sich praktisch keine Mitosen mehr [26].…”
