Purpose This study aims to examine the psycho-emotional and social experiences of caregivers of children with autism spectrum disorder. Various facets of the caregiving experience are explored, including the feelings and thoughts of the parents/caregivers, such as the resilience experienced in their journey, how they coped with the challenges and also their positive experiences. Design/methodology/approach In this study, these aspects of the caregiving experience are broadly probed using semi-structured interviews subjected to narrative analysis. Lastly, there is a focus on the role of therapist-led intervention, specifically, the Eye to I© intervention model and its contributions to the parent/caregiver experience. Findings Findings from this study indicate that parents benefit from interventions that bridge gaps in skills and interpersonal communication which parents/caregivers feel they encounter in their day-to-day activities. Additionally, support groups for parents and caregivers could further address these issues. Originality/value This exploration reveals insights about the roles of societal structures and the caregiving journey.

This study explored ways to bring together and involve parents of children with learning disabilities to establish a unified organizational mission. The study focused on parents in Tungawan, Zamboanga Sibugay, who had children diagnosed with learning disabilities. The study revealed key themes and codes related to parental involvement and engagement in their children's education through an exploration of the parents' lived experiences. The theme of Parental Struggle and Engagement explores the challenges faced by parents, especially single parents, highlighting their dedication and adaptability. The theme of Teaching and Educational Support highlighted the challenges parents faced in educating children with learning disabilities and the support systems in place. The study investigated the impact of community support, parent-teacher collaboration dynamics, emotional bonds, and assistance in daily activities. The study investigated the challenges parents faced when engaging with educational institutions and support networks, including financial constraints, transportation limitations, time constraints, resource allocation issues, and social dynamics within the community. The study also investigated the coping strategies used by parents to address these challenges and enhance their involvement in educational activities. The study emphasized the importance of supportive parenting, educational strategies, collaboration, resilience, and optimal resource utilization in effectively managing learning disabilities. This study adds to the growing research on diverse perspectives in inclusive education and support systems through qualitative interviews and thematic analysis, enriching discourse and informing future efforts.

The study explores the role of the Eye to I© intervention model in facilitating advancement through social stages of play in which skills contribute to the quality of social interaction and communication in children with autism. Data were collected on 11 participants, ages of 2–6 years, formally diagnosed with autism, receiving Eye to I© Social Communication therapy at Potentials Therapy Center, New Delhi, India. Eye to I© is developed in-house at Potentials and is further discussed in the paper. All participants attended a form of group intervention. A mixed-method design included quantitative measures administered pre and post intervention (Communication DEALL Developmental Checklist, Communication Matrix) and video coding of Social Communication sessions. Qualitative measures were semi-structured parent interviews conducted at the end of intervention. Thematic analysis and quantitative statistical analysis results show that by the end of the Eye to I© intervention period children engaged in social stages of play of greater developmental complexity and showed increased scores in assessments of social skills as well as generalization of skills. This suggests that skill acquisition necessary to directly support two diagnostic criteria areas of autism as per DSM-V; i.e., communication and social interaction occurred during the period of intervention.
