We reviewed research regarding system- and visit-level strategies to enhance clinical preventive service delivery and quality for adolescents and young adults. Despite professional consensus on recommended services for adolescents, a strong evidence base for services for young adults, and improved financial access to services with the Affordable Care Act’s provisions, receipt of preventive services remains suboptimal. Further research that builds off successful models of linking traditional and community clinics is needed to improve access to care for all youth. To optimize the clinical encounter, promising clinician-focused strategies to improve delivery of preventive services include screening and decision support tools, particularly when integrated into electronic medical record systems and supported by training and feedback. Although results have been mixed, interventions have moved beyond increasing service delivery to demonstrating behavior change. Research on emerging technology—such as gaming platforms, mobile phone applications, and wearable devices—suggests opportunities to expand clinicians’ reach; however, existing research is based on limited clinical settings and populations. Improved monitoring systems and further research are needed to examine preventive services facilitators and ensure that interventions are effective across the range of clinical settings where youth receive preventive care, across multiple populations, including young adults, and for more vulnerable populations with less access to quality care.

Given that we live in an environment in constant change—a liquid society, according to Bauman—we propose a versatile parenting style with the capacity to adapt to the variations of socio-temporal evolution. This is achieved by basing parenting guidelines on the permanent, executive, cognitive, and affective components of a person. Although the first reviews of parenting styles emphasized the Authoritative style, the emerging tendency in some geographical areas has been to prioritize the Indulgent style. Extracting the common factor of these two styles, the suggestion is to improve the affective aspect of the relationship characterized by warm and close parent–child interactions. It is important to respect the style of each family in order to support it in its educational task while offering guidelines to help consolidate healthy adolescent lifestyles. In this line, we present successful experiments that have helped families in this decisive task by highlighting the efficacy of promoting systemic educational plans that involve the whole society.

OBJETIVO: Avaliar o impacto da presença de adolescentes no domínio psicológico das mães em famílias que vivem em áreas de vulnerabilidade e risco social.MÉTODOS: Foram aplicados o questionário socioeconômico e o WHOQOL-bref, utilizando o teste de Mann-Whitney para comparação de domínios e o teste qui-quadrado ou exato de Fisher para dados categóricos, considerando nível de significância de 5%.RESULTADOS: Participaram do estudo 71 sujeitos, em sua maioria do sexo feminino (89,00%), com média de idade de 38 anos (DP±13,96), de estrato social inferior. As medianas do questionário WHOQOL-bref foram 71,43 para o domínio físico, 70,83 para o domínio psicológico, 66,67 para domínio relações sociais e 46,88 para o domínio meio ambiente. Os cuidadores que conviviam com adolescentes apresentaram mediana significativamente menor para o domínio psicológico (Mann-Whitney; p=0,03).CONCLUSÕES: Em áreas socialmente vulneráveis, a adolescência impactou no domínio psicológico da QV do cuidador.
