To investigate the hot topics and attitudes of autism in the larger community. In this study, we analyzed and summarized experimental texts from the social media platform Zhihu using the TF-IDF algorithm and K-means clustering approach. Based on the analysis of the 1,740,826-word experimental text, we found that the popularity of autism has steadily risen over recent years. Sufferers and their parents primarily discuss autism. The K-means clustering algorithm revealed that the most popular topics are divided into four categories: self-experience of individuals with autism, external views of individuals with autism, caring and stressful behaviors of caregivers, and information about autism. This study concluded that people with autism face more incredible negative emotions, external cognitive evaluations of the autistic group reflect stereotypes, the caregiver’s family suffers high financial and psychological stress, and disorders caused by disease in autistic individuals.

BackgroundThe importance of strategies and services by caregivers and family members substantially impact the psychological and emotional wellbeing of autistic children. The rapid research developments in clinical and non-clinical methods benefit the features of autistic children. Among various internal and external factors, the influence of the built environment also impacts the characteristics of autistic children. This study investigates primarily the psychological effect of light and colors on the mood and behavior of autistic children to identify the most favorable and preferred indoor lights and color shades.MethodsA questionnaire survey was conducted at an autism center among autistic children and their parents. This study included autistic children aged between 6 and 16 (45 males, 42 females, mean age 8.7 years, standard deviation 2.3). Eighty-seven participants were involved in the survey to determine the sensory perceptions, intolerance, preferences, and sensitivities of children with an autism spectrum disorder toward colors and lighting. The margin of error at the statistical analysis’s 95% confidence level is ± 0.481.ResultsAs per this case report, the children have various color preferences and respond differently to different shades. Different hues have varying effects on autistic children, with many neutral tones and mellow shades proven to be autistic-friendly with their calming and soothing effect, while bright, bold, and intense colors are refreshing and stimulating. The stimulus of bright-lighting causes behavioral changes in autistic children prone to light sensitivity.ConclusionThe insights gained from this interaction with parents and caretakers of autistic children could be helpful for designers to incorporate specific autistic-friendly design elements that make productive interior spaces. A complete understanding of the effect of factors like color and lighting on the learning ability and engagement of autistic children in an indoor environment is essential for designers and clinicians. The main findings of this study could be helpful for a designer and clinicians to address designing an autism-friendly built environment with a color palette and lighting scheme conducive to their wellbeing and to maximize their cognitive functioning.

Background: Parents of children with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) are an integral component of the healthcare system as they have a substantial role in providing care and support for their children. Therefore, implementing effective parent training programs is of paramount importance. Hence, parents feel self-assured in their capacity to navigate challenges that come with caring for their children with ASD. Purpose: This study aimed to determine the effect of health education program using an illustrated booklet on knowledge and practice of parents who have children with ASD. Design: a quasi-experimental pretest-posttest study design was used. Settings: This study was conducted at the Psychiatric and Neurological Outpatient Clinics of both Smouha Specialized University Hospital for Children as well as the Main University Hospital in Alexandria. Sampling: A convenient sample of 60 parents who were attending with their children having ASD in the previously mentioned settings. Instruments: Two instruments were used for data collection; Instrument one: Knowledge of parents having children with ASD interview scheduled sheet, and Instrument two: Parents' caregiving practices for their children with ASD. Results: revealed that 83.3% of parents of the study group exhibited good level of knowledge following the health education sessions with total mean score (5.27±0.91) compared to none of the control group (1.47±1.07) and the difference was statistically significant (p< 0.001*). Regarding caregiving practices, 76.7% of parents in the study group displayed a satisfactory level after the health education sessions with total mean score (25.11±8.20) compared to only 3.3% of the control group (11.40±1.54) with statistically significant difference (p <0.001). Conclusion: this study demonstrated the substantial positive impact of the well-designed comprehensive health education program on parents' knowledge, and subsequently their caregiving practices. Recommendations: Continuous health education and counseling programs should be launched for parents about the care of their children with ASD.
