Surgery of a child is a stressful event for the parents and the family. Pain management is an important part of treatment among children undergoing surgical procedures. The aim of this study was to examine the parent satisfaction level related to child’s post-operative pain management. The study included 160 mothers of children aged 2-7 years undergoing elective surgery. In the study the mothers were randomly allocated either to the intervention (n=80) or control group (n=80). The children in the intervention group received age-appropriate distraction interventions for three postoperative days along with the usual care. Children in the control group received only usual care. Data on parent satisfaction related to postoperative pain management interventions was assessed on the day of discharge using a Parent satisfaction scale. It was found that majority 68 (85%) of mothers in the intervention and 27 (33.7%) in the control group were “very satisfied” with pain management interventions. However, 12 (15%) mothers in the intervention and 53 (66.2%) were “moderate satisfied”. The mean and standard deviation of parent satisfaction in the intervention group was 42 ±5.237 and 34 ± 6.642 in the control group. Results from One-way ANOVA identified that there was a significant difference in the parent satisfaction between the intervention and control group (p<0.05). Conclusion: Nurses worldwide must engage parents in the management of their child’s postoperative pain by clearly expressing their responsibilities and roles, as well as providing ample opportunities for parent’s active participation in their child’s postoperative pain management.

Mục tiêu của nghiên cứu là đánh giá sự hài lòng và một số yếu tố liên quan của người chăm sóc trẻ bệnh điều trị nội trú tại khoa Nhi – Bệnh viện đa khoa quốc tế Vinmec Hải Phòng năm 2023. Thiết kế nghiên cứu mô tả cắt ngang trên 258 đối tượng. Số liệu được thu thập bằng phỏng vấn trực tiếp bộ câu hỏi có cấu trúc. Số liệu được xử lý bằng phần mềm SPSS phiên bản 20.0. Kết quả nghiên cứu cho thấy tỷ lệ chung về mức độ hài lòng của người chăm sóc trẻ về thời gian họ phải chờ đợi tại bệnh viện là 84,1%; hài lòng với kỹ năng và thái độ của nhân viên y tế là 93,4%; sự hài lòng về cơ sở vật chất và tổ chức các khoa phòng là 93,4%; hài lòng của người bệnh về tính minh bạch chi phí và BHYT là 94,6%; hài lòng với chất lượng dịch vụ cung cấp tại bệnh viện là 88,4%; hài lòng chung về dịch vụ y tế là 74,4%. Một số yếu tố liên quan đến sự hài lòng của người chăm sóc trẻ bao gồm nghề nghiệp, trình độ học vấn, có bảo hiểm tự nguyện, giới tính (p<0,05). Dựa trên kết quả nghiên cứu chúng tôi đưa ra một số kiến nghị sau: duy trì và phát huy chất lượng chăm sóc về thái độ và trình độ chuyên môn của Điều dưỡng và bác sỹ; tinh giản hóa thủ tục hành chính trong các khâu góp phần giảm thời gian chờ của khách hàng; chú trọng thêm công tác chăm sóc điều trị nội trú, tuyển thêm nhân lực chất lượng cao, mở rộng thêm số lượng giường nằm điều trị để góp phần giảm thời gian chờ nhập viện nội trú của khách hàng. Tiếp tục duy trì liên kết thanh toán với các tổ chức Bào hiểm tự nguyện, thủ tục nhanh chóng thuận tiện giúp người bệnh được hỗ nhanh nhất về chi phí khi nằm viện.

Introduction: The quality care is an essential aspect of hospital service in improving health outcomes. Quality of children’s care can be assessed by measuring the parental satisfaction. Methods: A descriptive cross-sectional design was used. Non-probability purposive sampling was used to select 167 parents of children who were admitted in Kanti Children Hospital. Data were collected by interviewing either the father or mother as roomed-in by using the Pediatric family satisfaction questionnaire (PFSQ) containing three domains as modified to suit to local context. Data were entered, cleaned and analyzed in statistical package for the social sciences SPSS version 22. Chi-square test and Spearman rank correlation coefficient were used to analyze the data. Results: Findings revealed that the overall satisfaction among majority (59.9%) of the respondents was low. However, domain wise, almost all (94.6%) respondents were satisfied in medical care followed by 89.2% in nursing care and lowest proportion (42.5%) was satisfied with hospital services and accommodation. Parental overall satisfaction was significantly higher among those admitted in surgical unit (p = 0.00) and among those with days of hospitalization as more than 6 days (p = 0.01). Findings also showed a moderate correlation between the satisfaction with nursing care and medical care (r = 0.64). Conclusions: Parents tend to have low satisfaction with the care provided to the admitted children whereas domain wise satisfaction is high in medical and nursing care and low in hospital services. Therefore, in order to increases the parental satisfaction, more focus should be given to improve the quality of hospital services and accommodation.
