r he P~enomenon of gustatory sweating was first described in 1757 by Duphenix and quoted y Baillarger (1853). The eponymous title of Frey's syndrome was placed on a disorder haracteri zed by profuse sweating, often accompanied by vasodilatation, in the area I(nnervated by the auriculotemporal nerve, after a description of this disorder by Lucie Frey 1923). Her classic case followed a bullet wound to the parotid region and she termed the resultant gustatory phenomenon 'the auriculotemporal syndrome'. Freedberg et al. (1948) collected 35 cases from the literature but, since this time, many more cases have been reported resulting from the increased surgery of the parotid gland. Laage-~l
