“…Institutional studies have demonstrated that 32% to 52% of patients with early-stage recurrent cancer after RT are candidates for salvage with CLS. 28,[38][39][40] Even in the N0 recurrent laryngeal cancer, prophylactic neck dissection should be considered, although this procedure should be considered individually across the laryngeal subsites. A retrospective review reported a 0% incidence of occult cervical metastases with T1 and T2 glottic cancer.…”

“…In Mexico, this type of treatment is not an exception because it constitutes the main treatment modality in most oncological centers. However, according to a review of the literature there is only one series published in our country by Rodríguez Cuevas et al [7], which demonstrates recurrence but does not accurately reflect the recurrence of glottic carcinoma after radiotherapy in Mexican patients. Total laryngectomy continues to be the most frequently used procedure with postradiotherapy recurrence.…”

“…Most articles that deal with recurrent laryngopharyngeal carcinomas analyze the outcome of salvage treatment and do not evaluate the diagnostic modalities [8,9]. Even studies that analyze voice preservation salvage surgery do not mention diagnostic modalities [5,6,10].…”
