To understand the crustal growth of the Qinling orogenic belt and the Mesozoic continental interaction between the North China and Yangtze blocks, it is critical to study the South Qinling accretionary complex belt, which is an important part of the Qinling orogen. Based on detailed zircon U–Pb geochronology and Hf isotopic compositional analyses of the Madao complex, this study presents constraints on the migmatization and tectonic evolution of the South Qinling orogenic belt during the Mesozoic. Zircons from leucosome samples of migmatites were found to have weak oscillatory zoning, and one sample yielded a weighted mean age that reflects the time at which the regional tectono‐thermal event initiated the anatexis (210–217 ± 2 Ma). The Hf isotopic compositions indicate that the Madao migmatites were derived from the ancient middle–Late Palaeoproterozoic crust. Zircons from mesosome samples of the migmatites that varied in age from the Palaeozoic to Neoproterozoic exhibited core‐rim textures with magmatic cores (256–1,329 Ma), indicating that they were derived from multiple sources with sedimentary protoliths. Of the 55 analysis spots on the overgrowth rims that yielded 206Pb/238U ages of 200–233 Ma, 40 analyses yielded a weighted age of 211.5 ± 1.0 Ma, indicating the time of anatexis due to the regional tectono‐thermal event. Combined with previously reported Mesozoic data from the South Qinling belt, these results suggest that the migmatites were probably controlled by post‐orogenic extension driven by Mesozoic orogenesis and a prolonged melting episode (from ~200 to 233 Ma). This study reinforces the interpretation that the continental crust in the South Qinling belt may have experienced complex interactions with asthenospheric mantle material during the Mesozoic.

The Ordos Basin is the second largest oil‐ and gas‐bearing sedimentary basin in China. This basin formed during the Triassic. At present, the location of the basin margins is still highly debated in the literature, especially its eastern and southern margins. The Triassic Yanchang Formation extensively outcrops in the Ordos Basin, and its distribution can provide a significant constraint on the basin extension. In this study, we focus on the measurement and correlation of the Middle–Late Triassic sedimentary strata from Nanzhao Basin, which is located to the south‐east of the present‐day Ordos Basin. The results of this study indicate that the sedimentary sequence of Triassic strata from Taizishan Formation and Taishanmiao Formation in the Nanzhao Basin is comparable with that of the Yanchang Formation in the Ordos Basin. Tuff intercalations in clastic rocks from Taizishan Formation in the Nanzhao Basin were studied with zircon chronology and Hf isotope analysis. The results show that the tuff sample has concord U–Pb age of 234.6 ± 1.5 Ma, which is considered as the boundary age between Middle and Late Triassic with a similar age in respect to that of the Yanchang Formation. The TDM2 values for the studied sample range from 1.0 to 1.4 Ga with the peak at 1.2 Ga, which is also similar to TDM2 values for tuffs encountered in the Yanchang Formation. On the other hand, the corresponding εHf(t) values of tuff in Nanzhao Basin range from −1.1 to +4.2 with an average of 1.2 and peak at 2, which are different with respect to those of the Yanchang Formation. According to the geochronological data, the tuffs in Nanzhao Basin might be mainly derived from a depleted‐mantle source from Late Meso‐Proterozoic period, and contaminated by a continental Early–Middle Meso‐Proterozoic crust. Therefore, we suggest that in Middle–Late Triassic, the southeastern margin of the Ordos Basin may have extended to Nanzhao area and the different εHf(t) values between tuffs in Nanzhao Basin and present Ordos Basin may be the result of scissor‐type collision of North China Block and South China Block during the Triassic.

A B S T R A C TThe Qinling orogenic belt in central China resulted from the final collision of the North China and South China blocks in the Triassic. Early Mesozoic granitoids are widespread in the Qinling orogen. Their genesis can provide key constraints on the tectonic evolution of this orogenic belt. The Late Triassic Baoji pluton, located in the North Qinling unit, consists of granodiorites, monzogranites, quartz monzodiorites, and K-feldspar granites. U-Pb zircon dating via the laser ablation ICP-MS technique yields ages of 217.4 5 1.4, 212.3 5 1.8, 212.6 5 1.6, and 195.1 5 2.0 Ma for granodiorites, monzogranites, quartz monzodiorites, and K-feldspar granites, respectively. The granitoids have high-K calc-alkaline, metaluminous to weakly peraluminous composition(s). Silica contents increase and Mg, Fe, Ti, Ca, and P contents decrease from quartz monzodiorites through granodiorites to monzogranites and K-feldspar granites. Combining our findings with evidence from whole-rock Sr-Nd and zircon Hf isotopes, we suggest that the granodiorites formed by magma-mixing processes involving metasomatized lithospheric mantle and Mesoproterozoic crustal material. The monzogranites record the contribution of an asthenospheric mantle source. The quartz monzodiorites were derived from a metasomatized lithospheric mantle source. Partial melting of crustal lithologies generated the K-feldspar granites. It is argued that the Baoji pluton formed in a late-collision setting.
