Partial ordering and phase elasticity in the MnGe short-period helimagnet

Abstract: We study the helimagnetic ground state of the MnGe cubic alloy using small-angle neutron scattering and a high-resolution method, the so-called MIEZE spectroscopy. Upon cooling below the Néel temperature T N = 170(5) K, we observe the proliferation of long-wavelength gapless spin fluctuations, concomitant with a continuous evolution of the helical correlation length. These fluctuations disappear at T com = 32(5) K when the helical period becomes commensurate with the lattice. We propose to describe this interm… Show more

“…In particular, the magnetic excitations of HL states may show unique low-energy spectral features, reflecting the dynamics of topological point defects. This would be clarified by recent theories for threedimensional topological spin texture [37][38][39][40] or can be directly observed by inelastic neutron scattering techniques [41]. Our findings highlight the large fluctuations of spin hedgehogs as a source of nonreciprocal conduction, which may enable the magnetically-controllable rectification of electron flows.…”

“…As has been demonstrated a number of times [12,16,[35][36][37][38], this setup imparts the capability to measure with magnetic samples, magnetic fields in the sample environment, and samples with a high incoherent scattering cross section. These capabilities are acquired without the need for the instrumental complexities faced in ferromagnetic spin-echo [16,39].…”

“…In the superconducting ferromagnet UGe 2 , a cross -over between dynamical properties characteristic of local -moment and itinerant -electron magnetism could be identified [17]. RESEDA was used in a study of the fluctuation -induced phase transitions in cubic chiral magnets, highlighting the complexities of the phase diagrams of these compounds, such as the weak crystallization of skyrmion textures [35,52,72,34,11]. A recent highlight concerned the study of emergent Landau levels in MnSi: The motion of a spin excitation across topologically nontrivial magnetic order leads to the emergence of Landau levels in the excitations spectrum for magnons in such systems.…”
