Abstract:It is shown that under the conditions of coexistence of the natural optical activity and some non-zero linear optical birefringence a partial non-reciprocity of the Faraday rotation can appear in transparent, optically quasi-uniaxial crystals. In particular, such the conditions may be reached in optically uniaxial crystals that manifest some residual linear birefringence along the optic axis direction. The theoretical prediction well agrees with obtained experimental results.

scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
