Participatory Approach in Reusable Learning Object (RLO) Development Using ASPIRE Framework

Abstract: A reusable learning object (RLO) is a type of e-learning resource developed that can be reused again in a variety of different e-learning activities, modules, and courses. Each has its own learning objective, but they can still be combined to form a comprehensive e-learning experience. This chapter investigates the design and development process of developing reusable learning objects (RLO) to digitize healthcare curricular in Malaysia, a project co-funded by the Erasmus+ Programme of the European Union with p… Show more

“…Storyboard sessions consisted of a meeting of participants to collectively produce a sequence of drawings with text and illustrations that represented their shared objectives, with feedback and guidance from the facilitators. This paper optimized the ASPIRE framework for best practice in chatbot co-creation by modifying some of the typical steps (see [20]).…”

“…The ASPIRE framework as described in [11], [16] can be translated in a series of concreate steps. Stakeholders come together in a storyboarding workshop and they define the aim, the exact learning objective that the RLO should have.…”

“…However, digital learning for refugee education is a new field with little research assessing its take-up and impact and there is a knowledge gap of digital health applications for refugees [3]. Certainly, there have been many initiatives for designing and developing e-learning resources and objects, however, they rarely involve stakeholders directly in the design and development process [8].…”

“…A set of six Reusable Learning Objects (RLOs) will be developed and integrated into a MOOC (Massive Open Online Course) aiming at the integration in terms of use of the health services, but also in the way that health and medicine is practiced in EU in comparison to major refugees' home countries. The participatory approach ''ASPIRE'' framework; an acronym that stands for Aims, Storyboarding, Population, Implementation, Release and Evaluation [8] is adopted in the design and development methodology of RLOs exploiting participatory co-design principles and mainly focus on involving all stakeholders on a six-step development process. Figure 1 below illustrates the workflow of the ''ASPIRE'' framework.…”
