“…Papers published since (or not considered in) the EPA's 2008 review also reported positive (though not always statistically significant) single-pollutant associations for hospital admissions and emergency room visits for: (a) asthma (Bell, Levy & Lin (2008), Colais et al, 2009;Giovannini et al, 2010;Halonen et al, 2008;Jalaludin et al, 2008;Samoli et al, 2011a;Szyszkowicz, 2008;Ueda, Nitta & Odajima, 2010;Villeneuve et al, 2007) and (b) respiratory causes (Colais et al, 2009;Eilstein et al, 2004;Faustini et al, 2013;Granados-Canal et al, 2005;Giovannini et al, 2010;Jayaraman & Nidhi, 2008;Thach et al, 2010;Vigotti et al, 2010).…”

“…Eight of the papers formed part of the EPA's 2008 review, in which they concluded that the limited evidence did not support a relationship between NO 2 and admissions for chronic obstructive pulmonary disease. The few remaining papers reported positive and statistically significant associations (Sauerzapf, Jones & Cross, 2009;Thach et al, 2010;Colais et al, 2009), or positive (many insignificant) or negative associations (Halonen et al, 2008; between NO 2 and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease admissions or emergency room visits. These associations were based on singlepollutant models.…”

“…Increases in hospitalisations and mortality corresponding to 10 mg?m -3 increases in PM10 or NO 2 were estimated and reported as percentages with 95% confidence intervals. More details about the analysis are reported in previous papers [17,21] and methods used to analyse hospitalisations have been fully described in a paper about the cardiovascular effects of PM10 [26].…”

“…This computational method was realized by C4.5 decision tree with high accuracy, which different from the previous studies. Meta-analysis [13], time-series [14,15] and case-crossover [16,17] were used more in these related works. The APHENA (Air Pollution and Health: A Combined European and North American Approach) study applied meta-regression approaches [2] and multi-cities time-series [18] to research the effect of air pollution on population health.…”
