Passage of radiation through wormholes of arbitrary shape

Abstract: We study quasinormal modes and scattering properties via calculation of the $S$-matrix for scalar and electromagnetic fields propagating in the background of spherically and axially symmetric, traversable Lorentzian wormholes of a generic shape. Such wormholes are described by the Morris-Thorne ansatz and its axially symmetric generalization. The properties of quasinormal ringing and scattering are shown to be determined by the behavior of the wormhole's shape function $b(r)$ and shift factor $\Phi(r)$ \emph{n… Show more

“…Therefore, for wormholes the condition ''pure incoming waves at the horizon'' is replaced with ''pure outgoing waves at the other spatial infinity'' [29,30]. For asymptotically anti-de Sitter black holes or wormholes, the AdS boundary creates an effective confining box [26], so that on the AdS boundary one usually requires the Dirichlet boundary conditions…”

“…The higher-order WKB approach proved to be useful for finding lower overtones of the quasinormal spectrum [50][51][52][53] and is in good agreement with accurate numerical data as was shown in 54,55 . The higher-order WKB corrections lead also to better accuracy for the reflection and transmission coefficients 56 .…”

“…In the throat r = b 0 and, therefore, 1 − b(r)/r vanishes. Probing of such wormhole geometry by test fields propagating in its background has been recently done in [26]. The time-like Killing vector has the form…”
