Abstract:In a typical Francis turbine operating in sand-laden rivers, owing to its complicated geometry and variable operating conditions, vortex structures appear and cause severe erosion damage to turbine components. Here, we present a bioinspired method to mitigate severe sediment erosion on Francis turbines.
