Passive micromixer for luminol-peroxide chemiluminescence detection

Abstract: This paper reports a microchip with an integrated passive micromixer based on chaotic advection. The micromixer with staggered herringbone structures was used for luminol-peroxide chemiluminescence detection. The micromixer was examined to assess its suitability for chemiluminescence reaction. The relationship between the flow rate and the location of maximum chemiluminescence intensity was investigated. The light intensity was detected using an optical fiber attached along the mixing channel and a photon dete… Show more

“…The CL signal reaches a maximum at 20 mm, which should be the result of a compromise between mixing and integrative consumption of reagents. Similar trend was also demonstrated in (Lok et al 2011) by a Co (II) catalyzed luminol-H 2 O 2 reaction system with a PMMA passive chip mixer with a mixing channel as wide as 1,800 μm. Given the other conditions unchanged, the CL signal was found linearly correlated with the concentration of luminol, and a detection limit of 1.0 μM luminol (3 times of signal/noise ratio) was obtained with a linear correlation coefficient of 0.987 in the range of 3.0-900 μM range (Fig.…”

“…The applicability of the chip was demonstrated by a chemiluminescence reaction with enhanced signal and detection power. The chemical resistive surface, integrity, transparency, and high mixing efficiency of this passive chip mixer are advantageous for microanalytical systems of various flow conditions, resource to enhance flow mixing (Chung et al 2004;Ju and Warrick 2013;Lok et al 2011;Nguyen and Wu 2005;Stroock et al 2002). The later is preferred, since no active elements need to be introduced; thus the fabrication process is much simplified.…”

“…The mixing efficiency in the SHM chip was claimed to be 17.8 times higher than the efficiency of the smooth channels mixers. Serpentine channels are perhaps the most popular design for enhancing mixing inside microfluidics channels . In serpentine channels, enhancement is due to the flow folding mechanism, which induces a secondary flow due to centrifugal forces as the solution travels through the folding.…”

“…A new flow-injection chemiluminescence (CL) method for the determination of ethylmorphine had been established in this study. Based on the chemiluminescence reaction ethylmorphine in hydrogen peroxide and oxidation with luminol in alkali condition, the CL intensity ofluminol decreased by adding ethylmorphine, the determination of ethylmorphine was developed using the quenching-chemi-luminescence by new design has been modulating of Spectroinc 20 to measure thechemiluminescence flow injection system .The proposed method was indirect, simple and rapid for determined the rang (1×10 www.arjonline.org based on HPLC have been developed for determination of Ethylmorphine (R.W) in pharmaceutical, usedHPLC with post -column Chemiluminescence detection (13) ,used Ion-pair inpharmaceutical (14) , determined by solid state for potentiometric (15) .…”
