Passive Micromixer Platform for Size- and Shape-Controllable Preparation of Ultrafine HNS

Abstract: A passive micromixer platform, with the assistance of controllable mixing performance, was used for the preparation and morphology control of ultrafine explosives. This method is characterized by high mixing efficiency, safe and easy processing, low solvent consumption, and fast preparation and screening. The preparation of hexanitrostibene (HNS) in the micromixer platform has obvious advantages over the beaker in terms of particle size and particle size distribution. The particle size of HNS prepared in the p… Show more

“…6 In chemical microfluidic applications, micromixing and micromixers are mainly used for characterizing nucleation and crystallization kinetics that are not fully comprehended through the traditional large volume reaction. 7,8 They are also utilized for solvent extraction in the liquid-liquid extraction process, 8,9 mixing of dissimilar liquids such as propanol, water, and saline, 10 and in emulsion technology, specifically in the generation of the monodisperse emulsion. 11 Micromixers are used for better thermal control in exothermic reactions polymerization as a result of their large surface-to-volume ratio.…”

“…However, this strategy is still limited in the field of materials modification. Microfluidics modulates fluids in microscale channels and has broad applications in the design and implementation of high-quality materials. From the needs of core–shell modification and continuous spheroidization, it can be seen that coupling oscillating–swirling–coflowing microfluidics will provide new opportunities for the design and creation of microspheres with superior core–shell structures via spray-drying. …”

“…[1][2][3] Mixing is very important for continuous flow chemical processes. Poor mixing efficiency can easily lead to a wide molecular weight distribution of polymer materials, 4,5 a wide particle size distribution of nanomaterials 6,7 and low selectivity of organic synthesis reactions. 8,9 Miniaturization systems with dimensions of no more than 1 mm have great potential for high mixing efficiency.…”
