“…Most research had been exploratory and case-based. Little theory testing and generalization research had been conducted, with limited theoretical foundations (Chicksand et al, 2012;Spina et al, 2013;Spina et al, 2016). In 2007, an international group of PSM researchers therefore decided to launch a major initiative aimed at developing the field using a large-scale international survey.…”

Wynstra (2010) finds that most of the studies from a sample of 351 articles published in the "Journal of Purchasing and Supply Management" are Mode 1 surveys and multiple case study papers with minimum incidence of collaboration and collaborative approaches in the inquiry process.…”

“…If one considers only the sub-discipline of purchasing and supply management thousands of peer reviewed journal articles can be found between the years 2002-2010 (Spina, Caniato, Luzzini, & Ronchi, 2013). Furthermore the management of the supplier relations is considered to be central to the discipline and an important area in need of further understanding of the supply chain management dynamic in organizations (Burgess et al, 2006;Chen & Paulraj, 2004;Co-Editors: Benn Lawson, Squire, Cousins, Lawson, & Squire, 2006).…”
