“…It shows marked bipolar staining and may be arranged singly, in pairs, or in small bundles. 2 Of the more than 17 species of Pasteurella known, P. multocida is among the most common human pathogens. It may also become part of the normal respiratory tract flora in humans, as it has been found in healthy veterinary students and animal handlers without any pulmonary symptoms.…”

“…2,6 It is important to perform antibiotic susceptibility tests on all isolates because P. multocida shows variable susceptibilities, including resistance to penicillin. 15 Perez-Garcia demonstrated that resistance is mediated by the expression of an ROB1 plasmid that codifies for beta-lactamase.…”

“…P. multocida is a component of the normal oral flora in 70-90% of cats and 50-66% of dogs and has been found in 50-80% of cat bite and 25% of dog bite wound infections. 1,2 In addition, P. multocida may be isolated as a commensal organism in the upper respiratory tract of individuals who are professionally exposed to animals. Human infections most often occur after direct inoculation from cat or dog bites or scratches or through contact with secretions of these animals, although infections have also been reported when no animal contact could be determined.…”

“…It is a common cause of infection after bites or scratches by dogs and, especially, cats, yet few cases have been reported in the medical literature. 1 These infections are usually confined to the soft tissues of the hand, and extensive spreading of the infection is rare. High-frequency ultrasound is an efficient, rapid, and relatively inexpensive method for investigation of disease in the soft tissues of the wrist and hand.…”

“…Many systemic infections likebrain abscess, bacteremia, meningitis and peritonitis and endocarditis can be caused by Pasturella species [9] [10] . Meningitis in infants occur due to the animal contact.Pasturella multocida is the commonest pathogen that is frequently isolated from wounds by animal bites [11] . Other Pasturella species are Pasturella pneumotropica, Pasturella haemolytica and Pasturella ureae that can be differentiated on the basis of different biochemical tests and are rare in humans.…”
