Pathogenicity ofHeterobasidion annosum(Fr.)Bref.sensu strictoon coniferous tree species inTurkey

Abstract: Summary Two‐year‐old seedlings of Pinus brutia, P. brutia var. eldarica, Pinus pinea and 3‐year‐old seedlings of Pinus radiata, Pinus sylvestris, Pinus nigra and Cedrus libani were inoculated on the lower stem with isolates of Heterobasidion annosum s.s. collected from the Black Sea and Mediterranean regions of Turkey. In total, 315 seedlings were inoculated in April 2014 and incubated in a growth chamber for 7 weeks at 18–20°C. All isolates were pathogenic on the seven different hosts and had the ability to g… Show more

“…The results obtained in this work indicating high susceptibility of C. libani to H. annosum were in agreement with those of Lehtijärvi et al (2011) and Doğmuş Lehtijärvi et al (2016). Different incubation times used in this work and the previous studies did not appear to have a great influence on relative lesion sizes and fungal growth values.…”

“…based on sequence analysis. Doğmuş‐Lehtijärvi, Erdoğan, Lehtijärvi, Woodward, and Aday Kaya () demonstrated by inoculations that isolates obtained from basidiocarps on Nordmann fir ( Abies nordmanniana (Steven) Spach) in Turkey were aggressive on pines and also on cedar of Lebanon ( Cedrus lebani A. Rich.).…”

“…Bref. sensu lato (Basidiomycota, Bondarzewiaceae) is the most destructive disease of conifer trees in the Northern Hemisphere [11,[89][90][91][92][93][94][95][96][97][98][99][100][101]. The sensu lato species complex is composed of three European (H. annosum, H. parviporum Niemelä and Korhonen and H. abietinum Niemelä and Korhonen) and two American species (H. irregulare Garbel.…”
