Pathogenicity of indigenous Beauveria bassiana (Balsamo) against Ceratitis capitata Wiedemann (Diptera: Tephritidae) under laboratory conditions

Abstract: Background The Mediterranean fruit fly, Ceratitis capitata (Wiedemann) (Diptera: Tephritidae), is the major insect pest of fruit production worldwide. Chemical control of this pest has induced the selection of resistant medflies populations and negative environmental impact. In addition, the use of pesticides has become an obstacle to the fresh agricultural products exported to many countries that restrict pesticides residues. The aim of this study was to propose alternatives based on the use of microbiologica… Show more

“…Several fruit flies attack diverse species of fruit (El-Heneidy et al, 2019;Food and Agriculture Organization, 2015;Łabanowska & Piotrowski, 2015;Mahmoud et al, 2019;Nebie et al, 2021;Orhan et al, 2016). In Algeria, fruit fly pose a risk to most commercial fruit; some species of the Tephritidae family are introduced pests and are very common in Mitidja and in many regions where fruit production is intense (Chergui et al, 2020;Laamari et al, 2022;Mostefaoui et al, 2020;Settaoui et al, 2017). The dense vegetation cover of the steppes near the Chotts, particularly in Djelfa, provides a favourable environment for the development of arthropods harmful to agriculture and humans (Khadoumi, et al, 2022;Messaoudene et al, 2023).…”

“…23,29,30,31 There was a difference in LT 50 between isolates (Table 3 death, and most conidia were recorded on legs, wings, and thoraces of some adult cadavers. 32 Cherguiet al 33 noted that dead individuals of Ceratitiscapitata were covered with a white mycelium characteristic of the fungus B. bassiana.…”

“…Microbial insecticide's effectiveness has been studied worldwide in a variety of pests of diverse crops, e.g., sugarcane [36], tobacco [37], wheat [38], potato [39], mango [40], tomato [41], and berries [42]. They have been evaluated under diverse conditions: laboratory [43], open fields [44] and greenhouses [45]. They had become a fundamental component for diverse integrated pest management programs [46] and organic production [47].…”
