Patient‐reported outcome and its association with attachment type and bone volume in mandibular implant overdenture

Abstract: Improvement in patients' OHRQoL and satisfaction with ISOD was associated with their baseline ratings. Mandibular bone volume had a stronger association for improvement in OHRQoL compared to type of attachment.

“…It has previously been discussed that the retention of the denture is the most important factor in the patient's comfort (Alfadda et al, 2017;de Albuquerque, Fromentin, Lassauzay, & Conceição Pereira Saraiva, 2018). An effect of the resorption of the mandible on the outcome was not observed, contrary to the work of Khalid who observed a significant correlation between the bone volume and the OHIP changes (Khalid et al, 2017). The clinical visual technique of evaluating the crestal bone mass in the present study, a combination of bone height and bone volume, without cone beam computed tomography (CBCT) could be an explanation for this different outcome.…”

“…on the OHRQoL, similar to other studies albeit with more patients and a longer follow-up (Bilhan, Geckili, Sulun, et al, 2011;De Bruyn et al, 2015;Fernandez-Estevan et al, 2015;Khalid et al, 2017;Kleis et al, 2010;Reissmann et al, 2017;Zhang et al, 2017). The improved OHRQoL is present in all seven sub-domains of the OHIP-14 total score, contrary to other authors (Khalid et al, 2017).…”

“…Although various oral conditions are not fatal, they have significant impacts on the quality of life of individuals in terms of physical, social and psychological problems (Khalid, Yunus, Ibrahim, Elkezza, & Masood, 2017;Masood, Masood, & Newton, 2014;Masood, Newton, Bakri, Khalid, & Masood, 2017;Ventegodt, Flensborg-Madsen, Andersen, & Merrick, 2008). Among oral conditions, Global Burden of Disease study shows that severe periodontal disease is one of the most common oral conditions globally (GBD 2016 DALYs andHALE Collaborators, 2017;Kassebaum et al, 2017).…”
