Patient with Metastatic Breast Cancer Achieves Stable Disease for 5 Years on Graviola and Xeloda after Progressing on Multiple Lines of Therapy

Abstract: Breast cancer (BC) is the most common malignancy in women and is second to lung cancer in terms of cancer mortality. Treatment of BC remains a challenge as current therapies are limited by toxicity and drug resistance. Graviola (Annona muricata) is a tree that grows in the tropics of North and South America. Traditionally, the leaves and stems from the graviola tree have been used for a wide range of human diseases including cancer. In vitro and in vivo studies demonstrate anticancer activity in BC however cli… Show more

“…As presented in Table , a range of human studies including RCTs ( n = 3), double‐blind RCT ( n = 1) and a case report ( n = 1) were conducted for a duration of one to nine months utilising an oral ethanolic leaf extract at a range of doses from 180 to 540 mg daily. One case report used dry A. muricata leaves boiled in water .…”

“…Aside from in vivo and in vitro studies, other isolated case reports have provided evidence for similar anti-cancer effects. Hansra et al report a case of a 66-year-old female with metastatic breast cancer who achieved stabilization of her disease for 5 years by consuming dried graviola leaves boiled in water once a day in conjunction with oral capecitabine [16].…”

“…Not only in vitro but also in vivo investigations are limited to anticancer examination of A. muricata. A reported case study of 66-year-old woman having metastatic breast cancer resulted in the stabilization of this disease by the consumption of the leaves boiled in water and Xeloda [130].…”
