Introduction: The pattern of skin disease differs in different countries, and within various region of a country depending on socio-economic, racial and environmental factors. Many researchers have reported various patterns of skin disease in different countries. This type of study has not been done in this part of country. So, we decided to study, assess and compare the different pattern of dermatological disease in patients visiting our centre. Methods: This was retrospective study done from the hospital record of Lumbini Medical College Teaching Hospital (LMCTH). The study was carried out from September 2014 to December 2014 while the data were accessed from the records of respondents from September 2013 to August 2014. The diagnosis was categorized into 10 groups. The diagnosiswhich did not fit any category was kept in "Others". The 10 categories include acne, bacterial infection, dermatophytes, eczema, leprosy, pigmentory diseases, psoriasis, scabies, urticaria and viral infection. Data was collected based on gender and categorized according to the diagnosis. Microsoft Excel was used for data entry while all the analysis both descriptive and inferential statistics was done using SPSS version 21. Results: There were a total of 7967 patients visiting Dermatology OPD. Out of the total patient, there were 52.10% female and 47.89% male and this difference was statistically significant. In both gender eczema was the most common skin disease. Eczema was significantly more common in male whereas acne was significantly common in female. Most of the patients were from age group of 15-30 yrs with eczema being commonest in this age group. Conclusion: Eczema and dermatophytes are the most common dermatological diseases. Eczema is significantly more common in male. Acne is significantly more common in female.

Background: Skin diseases are the major cause of out-patient visit in Nepal. Department of Health Services, Nepal ranks skin diseases as fourth common cause of out-patient visit throughout the country. The objective of the study was to determine the pattern of different skin diseases in Himalayan region of Nepal.Material and methods: A cross sectional descriptive study design was conducted in a health camp setting in which 148 community people visited the camp with dermatological diseases. Information about socio-demographic and dermatological diseases were collected with a structured performa.Results: The most common primary diagnosis was pigmentary anomaly (20.3%) followed by Eczemas (18.9%), Superficial mycoses (10.8%), and acne (10.1%). In all skin diseases male were more affected as compared to female.Conclusions: The dermatoses of Himalayan region are pigmentary anomalies being most common, followed by eczemas, superficial mycoses, acne, photodermatoses, scabies, urticaria, benign tumours and pyodermas.Nepal Journal of Dermatology, Venereology & Leprology, Vol.14(1) 2016, pp.25-28

Introduction: Asthma is the most common chronic disease in children. This study was performed to determine the prevalence of asthma, eczema and allergic rhino-conjunctivitis symptoms in school children of Kathmandu. Methods: This questionnaire-based survey was conducted from December 2009 to August 2010 in 13 schools of Kathmandu among children aged six to seven years and 13 to 14 years based on questions adapted from International Study on Asthma and Allergies in Children (ISAAC) and translated into Nepali. Data were analysed using SPSS and prevalence of self-reported asthma-like symptoms, eczema and allergic rhinitis were assessed. Results: The questionnaire was distributed to 8269 children with a response rate of 68.54%. About 7.5% replied positively for "ever wheezed” (8.1% in older and 6.4% in young children) and 5.2% reported, "current wheeze" (4.2% in younger and 5.8% in older children). Boys had more frequent wheezing than girls in both age groups (p < 0.05). More children had nocturnal cough not associated with cold or chest infection (16.0%) and exercise-induced symptoms (9.4%). The overall prevalence of eczema was 6.2%; younger children (7.2%) reporting symptoms more commonly than older children (5.6%). The reported prevalence of allergic rhinitis was 28.2% (31.2% in older as compared to 22.9% in younger children). Allergic symptoms like “current wheeze”, “eczema” and “allergic rhinitis” were frequently reported together. Conclusion: Asthma, eczema and allergic rhinitis are common in school children of Kathmandu. A multi-centre study across all ecological zones in both rural and urban settings including video questionnaire will more accurately estimate asthma prevalence and its trends in school children of Nepal.
