Pattern-Reconfigurable, Flexible, Wideband, Directive, Electrically Small Near-Field Resonant Parasitic Antenna

Abstract: A pattern-reconfigurable, flexible, wideband, directive, electrically small near-field resonant parasitic (NFRP) antenna is presented. The antenna consists of a pair of Egyptian axe dipole (EAD) near-field resonant parasitic (NFRP) elements, together with a pair of shaped metallic strips that act as the driven element and are fed by a coaxial cable. These NFRP and driven elements are designed to achieve compactness. Two pairs of p-in (PIN) diodes are integrated into the driven element to enable the pattern-rec… Show more

“…For another, near-field resonant parasitic (NFRP) element have been widely used to design printed monopole antennas [15]. In [16], by loading a pair of Egyptian axe dipole as NFRP element, the printed monopole antenna is designed to be completed. In [17], a printed monopole antenna with a capacitively-loaded loop (CLL) as NFRP element is presented.…”

“…Pattern reconfigurable antennas are attractive in applications of surveillance and tracking because they produce radiation patterns with different directivities at the same operating frequency [26,27]. Commonly, either structures are designed with the potential to produce pattern diversity or the feeding configurations are reconfigurable, an application of array theory [28,29]. We shall discuss a typical example [30].…”

“…Optical, mechanical or electronic switching can be used to accomplish reconfiguration. Electronic switching is achieved using lumped components, for example, varactor diodes [5], PIN diodes [6][7][8][9][10][11][12][13][14], RF MEMS switches [15] or FET transistors.…”
