Pattern selection for error-resilient slice interleaving based on receiver error concealment technique

Abstract: Video communication is often afflicted by packet loss over unreliable networks. To alleviate the quality degradation in the situation of packet loss, this paper proposes a novel error resilient slice interleaving method for compressed video packetization. Each packet is constructed by interleaving independently decodable slices of the coded video bit-stream in consecutive frames. The optimal interleaving pattern for minimizing the overall distortion of the decoded video, subject to a delay constraint, is deter… Show more

“…The main concept of MDC is to create several independent descriptions that contribute to one or more characteristics of the original signal: spatial or temporal resolution, signal-to-noise ratio (SNR), or frequency content [43]- [46]. For video coding, the subdivision is usually performed in the spatial domain or in the temporal domain, such as separating the odd and even numbered frames [47], the spatial chessboard MB decomposition [28], and the spatiotemporal slice interleaving [48]. The descriptions can be generated in a way that each description is equally important to the reconstructed content.…”

“…To deal with the problem in multi-view applications, many studies have been proposed. In general, error recovery can be undertaken by two approaches called error resilience [5][6][7][8][9] and error concealment [10][11][12][13][14][15][16][17][18]. For multi-view error concealment, study [17] uses the intra-view difference, inter-view correlation, and difference of the interview disparity vector projections on the neighboring views to conceal the error frames.…”
