Patterns of ophthalmic emergencies presenting to a referral hospital in Medina City, Saudi Arabia

Abstract: Non-emergent ophthalmic cases were the most common reason for the ophthalmology emergency room visits. It was observed that most cases could be referred to outpatient departments and potentially be managed by primary healthcare providers. This would be more cost effective and will also allow for better management of vision threatening ocular emergencies.

“…A betegeket a panasz alapján diagnóziscsoportokba soroltuk. A csoportok létrehozásában a BNO-10 beosztását és a szemészeti osztályok betegforgalmát feldolgozó, korábban megjelent publikációkat [8,9] vettük alapul. Ezek alapján az alábbi kategóriákat hoztuk létre: a szemhéj degeneratív betegségei és a könnyutak betegségei; a kötőhártya betegségei és a szem mirigyeinek gyulladásai; a szaruhártya gyulladásai és egyéb betegségei; az érhártya gyulladásai és egyéb betegségei; szürke hályog; utóhályog; zöld hályog; az üvegtest betegségei; száraz típusú maculadegeneratio; nedves típusú maculadegeneratio; diabeteses ideghártya-elváltozások; az ideghártya ereinek elzáródása; ideghártya szakadás/leválás; a látóideg betegségei; a szem és védőszerveinek bármilyen sérülése; szembetegség nélküli állapot; egyéb.…”
