In this study, blue-color emitting phosphors CaMgSi 2 O 6 :Eu 2+ (CMS:Eu 2+ ) were synthesized by the polymerizable complex method at 1000 °C in a reducing atmosphere. After the synthesis, the desired CMS crystals were obtained, but a small amount of impurity phases, such as Ca 2 MgSi 2 O 7 and Ca 3 MgSi 2 O 8 , were contained. By adding lithium carbonate Li 2 CO 3 as a flux to the polymerizable complex method and washing with 1 mol dm ¹3 HCl solution, the desired CMS:Eu 2+ was obtained in a single phase. The maximum luminescence intensity was obtained at a flux concentration of 8 mol % for the composition CaMgSi 2 O 6 when the amount of added flux was varied.
