“…This value correlates with previously reported results: 18.4% of PCR-positive plasma samples from patients with EM (Goodman et al, 1995) and 28% of PCR-positive plasma samples from patients with active neuroborreliosis (Picha et al, 2005). It should be mentioned that it was not always possible to detect Borrelia DNA in blood by PCR, especially if relatively small amounts of human blood were examined in a single round of PCR, or analyzed blood of patients with post-Lyme borreliosis syndromes, or isolated DNA from small quantities of plasma (Klempner et al, 2001;Coulter et al, 2005).…”

“…It is possible to draw attention to the high number of positive PCR examined in urine. The safety of this material for DNA testing is often questioned in many reports, but some previous and recent results provide a good promise for the future 16,19,26,32 …”

“…We have already studied this problem earlier, 19 and in this study an attempt was made to check the new arrangement PCR in a group of patients with different forms of LB. The main aim of study was the clinical testing of PCR with an emphasis on the reactivity of the newly selected primers in different forms of LB.…”

“…Results of PCR-based detection of B. burgdorferi in CSF have been variable at best. Some reports suggest it may be useful in acute meningitis; generally, this approach is probably best reserved for research studies at this time [8,[41][42][43]. Some laboratories have used unconventional techniques.…”
