Pd(II) complexes of amino alcohols and their reaction with chloramine‐T: A kinetic study

Abstract: The kinetics of reaction of amino alcohols viz. 2-aminoethanol, 3-aminopropanol, and triethanolamine with chloramine-T have been studied in perchloric acid medium with palladous chloride as catalyst. The formation of {Pd(II)-(aminoalcohol)} and {Pd(II)-(aminoalcoho1)2) complexes and resistance of {Pd(II)-(aminoalcohol)z} complex to react with chloramine-T have been observed. A suitable mechanism consistent with the kinetic data is proposed and discussed.

“…The rate of polymerization (R p ) of MMA is measured at various concentrations of MMA keeping the concentrations of BA, CCl 4 , and RuCl 3 constant. The monomer exponent value calculated from the slope of the linear plot between log R p the charge-transfer complex by the interaction of the amine with CCl 4 and its subsequent decomposition to produce • CCI 3 . There are also reports [40] that polymerization of amine with CCl 4 systems is vastly accelerated by transition metal ions such as Fe 3+ , Cu 2+ and so on.…”

“…On the other hand, the enhancement of oxidation rate upon addition of small amounts of alkali-metal ion catalysts, have interpreted [30][31][32][33][34] on the basis of specific effects of metal ions in terms of bridging which facilitates electron transfer in redox systems, while Wahl [35,36] and his co-workers have interpreted specific effects in terms of complex formation.…”

“…Sodium N-chlorop-toluenesulfonamide or Chloramine-T (CAT; p-CH 3 C 6 H 4 SO 2 NClNa.3H 2 O) is one of the prime members of organic halo-amine family and behaves as an oxidizing agent in both acidic and alkaline media. Depending upon the pH of the medium, it forms various oxidizing species and thus shows a variety of kinetic results [6][7][8][9]. Several researchers have studied the oxidizing behavior of CAT [10][11][12][13]and numerous studies focus on the mechanistic aspects of the redox reactions in acidic media.…”
