In applications where a moderate selectivity is required, finite-duration impulse response (FIR) digital filters can easily provide the desired results by using various optimisation methods, including: genetic algorithm (Park and Cho 2006), iterative algorithms developed either in time or in frequency domain (Jou 2007;Kok, Siu, and La 2008), new algorithms developed in frequency domain (Kumar, Singh, and Anand 2008), and particle swarm optimisation like genetic algorithm (Kumar, Singh, and Anand 2009). Unfortunately, when a high selectivity is desired, the required order of a FIR filter can be very high, and in most cases, much higher than that of the corresponding IIR filter.…”
