Pedagogical introduction to SYK model and 2D Dilaton Gravity

Dmitrii A. Trunin

Abstract: SYK model and 2D dilaton gravity have recently attracted considerable attention from the high energy and condensed matter physics community. The success of these models is due to their remarkable properties. Following the original papers, we broadly discuss the properties of these models, including large N diagrammatics, emergence of conformal symmetry in the IR limit, effective action, four-point functions and chaos. Also we briefly review some recent results in the topic. On the one hand, we try to be as spe… Show more

“…Recent years have witnessed great interest and developments on an ensemble-averaged version of the renowned AdS/CFT correspondence [1], which relates the Sachdev-Ye-Kitaev (SYK) quantum-mechanical model [2][3][4] at low temperatures to Jackiw-Teitelboim (JT) two-dimensional (2d) dilaton gravity [5][6][7][8]-itself localizing the 2d bulk geometry to AdS 2 , whilst placing its nontrivial dynamics on the one-dimensional fluctuating boundary [9][10][11][12][13][14] (see, e.g., [15][16][17], for reviews on SYK, 2d dilaton gravities, and further references). This endeavor finally brought AdS/CFT to the strict quantum-mechanical realm.…”

“…Z is a word of weight w = 4 (4 letters) in su (2 8 ). Low weight directions are both the practical directions along which to evolve a quantum state in a quantum computer and according to the SYK [11] model (in its Bosonic version), the principal directions of black hole evolution [4,3]. These constraints direct our attention to the Brown-Susskind exponential penalty metrics: (1) g ij = δ ij e const.…”

“…It also allows us to leave aside unimportant higher-dimensional complications. Holography provides a connection to condensed matter models like the SYK spin chain [7], so it can be potentially verified even in the lab experiments [8].…”
