PEG‐based organic–inorganic hybrid coatings prepared by the sol–gel dip‐coating process for biomedical applications

Abstract: In the present work, the application of functional coatings on metallic implants was proposed to delay implant failure by improving tissue tolerance and implant osseointegration. Three bioactive and biocompatible organic–inorganic hybrid nanocomposites, consisting of polyethylene glycol (PEG) embedded in a SiO2, ZrO2, and TiO2 matrix, respectively, were synthesized via the sol–gel method. Materials in the sol phase were used to dip‐coat titanium grade 4 substrates for use as dental and orthopedic implant model… Show more

“…Several strategies have been developed to prepare well‐defined inorganic/organic hybrid NCs. The most common of these strategies are via starlike polymer as nanoreactors, sol–gel, in situ polymerization, and solution blending method . In this study, poly (9,9 ′ ‐di‐n‐octylfluorenyl‐2.7‐diyl) (PFO) as a donor and poly [2‐methoxy‐5‐(2‐ethyl‐hexyloxy)‐1,4‐phenylenevinylene] (MEH‐PPV) as an acceptor were blended at various ratios with and without a SiO 2 /TiO 2 NC by the solution blending method.…”

“…Six additional papers have studied the effects of different combined materials on other cell types. Coating Ti disks with a Si–Ca/PCL6 scaffold or combining BGs with forsterite or leuciteenhanced the proliferation of NIH3T3, human osteoblast‐like cells and rat derived osteoblasts respectively.…”

“…Numerous approaches, such as solution blending method [ 2 ], sol –gel [ 11 ], in situ polymerization [ 12 ], and star-like polymer as nanoreactors [ 13 ], have been established to prepare well-defined organic/inorganic nanocomposites. In the recent studies, the effect of fixed ratio of individual TiO 2 or SiO 2 NPs and fixed STNCs on the energy transfer of the various blend ratios of poly [2methoxy-5-(2-ethyl-hexyloxy)-1,4-phenylenevinylene] (MEH-PPV) and poly (9,9′-di-n-octylfluorenyl-2.7-diyl) (PFO) was investigated in details [ 7 ].…”
