Penetration of Fleroxacin into Prostatic Secretion and Prostatic Adenoma Tissue

Abstract: In 12 elderly patients, plasma, prostatic secretion and adenoma tissue concentrations of fleroxacin were determined 1–4 h following oral administration of 400 mg. The plasma concentrations ranged between 0.4 and 5.5 μg/ml (median 3.7 μg/ ml), the mean tissue concentrations were slightly higher. The concentrations in prostatic secretion were about one third of the simultaneous plasma concentrations. High concentrations of the concomitantly administered ioxithalamic acid in prostatic secretion are considered as … Show more

“…Levofloxacin was determined by high-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) with fluorimetric detection adapting a published method [4]. The unbound fraction of levofloxacin in plasma was determined after ultracentrifugation (Centrisart I, cut-off 10,000, Sartorius, Göttingen, Germany) by HPLC analysis.…”

“…Moxifloxacin was determined by high-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) with fluorimetric detection (excitation/emission 296/504 nm) adapting a previously described method [12]. Plasma, prostatic fluid, ejaculate or urine was mixed with gatifloxacin solution (internal standard) and deproteinised with methanol.…”

“…In the same study, the prostatic fluid and prostatic adenoma tissue concentrations of fleroxacin in 13 elderly patients were similar to those of volunteers. Since this agent is active against almost all bacteria causing complicated urinary tract infections, it should be effective in most cases of bacterial prostatitis [67,68].…”
