Implementing Google Earth to Enhance Student’s Engagement and Learning Outcome in Geography Learning

This study aims to examine the effects of Google Earth on students’ engagement in learning and their learning outcome. This study employed pre-experimental design with the One-Shot Case Study design. From the exploration directed crosswise over various areas of evaluation of 12 students in the school, it is demonstrated that dynamic learning of students in was high since it was above 75% and learning outcomes reached an average of 80. This is good considering that the passing grades set in the school was 70. The application of experiential learning methods can produce satisfactory output when viewed from student participation. By looking at the characteristics of schools where students number was less than 20, the teacher is required to develop innovative learning methods. If implemented, this may yield in the improving circumstance of the currently marginalised Geography. Keywords: Google Earth; Student`s activities; Geography learning. This research aims to identify the Bajo’s local wisdom in preservation sea and coastal area in the form of teaching material in the Basic Natural Science (BNS) focused on environment preservation. The type of research is research and development. Teaching material is arranged based on the principle and procedures of developing a 4-D model, there are: define, design, develop, and disseminate. Teaching material draft validated by two matter experts, one language experts, and one design expert. Teaching material draft tried to the Language and Literature Education students with 10 people in the small group and 40 people in the large group. The average validation results were 83.73% (very good) and did not need revision. Revised sections: cover, image source, chapter display, and change the unsuitable image. The small group student trials result obtained 80.68% (good) and large groups obtained 82.95% (good). The implication of this research is as an alternative solution to maintain and enhance the local wisdom value of the Bajo’s in preserving the sea and coast through teaching materials.

Abstract: There is a problem occured in demographic laboratory, geography department, State University of Malang. The problem is that Spectrum 5 software for demographic analysis does not have suitable tutorial books. The reason for this matter is several books about Spectrum 5 that exist do not have proper guidance on how to operate the software. As a result, users can not operate the software correctly. Book called Proyeksi Penduduk Menggunakan Spectrum 5 then developed as a solution. The book developed through Double Diamond model using IEEE Standard. IEEE Standard chosen in order to fix the problem that existing book had. This development expected to maximize the utilization of Spectrum 5 software. Altough already validated by several expert from various discipline, the book should revised continually.Abstrak: Laboratorium demografi jurusan geografi Unversitas Negeri Malang memiliki masalah. Permasalahan yang terjadi adalah aplikasi Spectrum untuk analisis kependudukan tidak memiliki buku panduan yang tepat. Buku yang ada tidak memiliki panduan yang jelas untuk mengoperasikan aplikasi tersebut. Keadaan ini menyebabkan pengguna tidak dapat menggunakan aplikasi dengan baik. Buku Proyeksi Penduduk Menggunakan Spectrum 5 dikembangkan sebagai solusi. Buku tersebut dikembangkan menggunakan model Double Diamond dengan format IEEE Standard. Standar IEEE dinilai dapat memperbaiki buku yang ada sehingga pengguna dapat mengoptimalkan aplikasi Spectrum 5. Buku tersebut dinilai valid oleh para ahli. Akan tetapi, perbaikan perlu terus dilakukan.
