There is considerable evidence from other studies of black South Africans that old age grants are usually shared across entire households (Lloyd-Sherlock et al, 2012b; Sagner and Mtati, 1999). This means that even if the oldest household member does not receive a pension in their own name, they are likely to receive a share of the benefit.…”
