Pentafluorobenzene: Promising Applications in Diagnostics and Therapeutics

Ratish R. Nair,
Eun Woo Seo,
Seongje Hong
et al.

Abstract: Pentafluorobenzene (PFB) represents a class of aromatic fluorine compounds employed exclusively across a spectrum of chemical and biological applications. PFBs are credited with developing various chemical synthesis techniques, networks and biopolymers, bioactive materials, and targeted drug delivery systems. The first part of this review delves into recent developments in PFB-derived molecules for diagnostic purposes. In the latter segment, PFB's role in the domain of theragnostic applications is discussed. T… Show more

“…13,14 Apart from the sulphonamide unit, fluorophores containing fluorine-substituted aromatic groups (e.g. pentafluorophenyl 15 ) were also utilized for ER imaging due to their favourable interaction with biomolecules present within the endoplasmic reticulum. [16][17][18] However, the examples of molecular scaffolds that simultaneously image ER and lipid droplets along with concurrent examination of physiological processes are a few.…”

“…17,18,[23][24][25] Here we integrated PFP to the fluorescent scaffold with dual function as electron-withdrawing moiety and as a recognition moiety for ER. 15 Based on this design approach, we synthesized three fluorophores PFC, with coumarin, PFN with naphthalene and PFB with a phenyl moiety substituted with dimethylamino electron donating group. The nitrile group on the double bond acts an additional acceptor unit.…”
