“…For women with CM histories, revisiting these experiences might prompt renewed consideration of the meanings of these experiences for general as well as parenting specific views of the self, relationships, and world. Such contemplation might provide an opportunity to restore meaning in life, or renew hopefulness but might also raise concerns about oneself as a competent parent, the parent–child relationship, or more general views about parenting (Banyard, 1997; Seltmann & Wright, 2013; Seng et al, 2013; Wright, Fopma-Loy, & Oberle, 2012). In this way, CM may shape both general and parenting-specific models of the self, others, and the world (Park, 2010).…”

“…The correlation coefficients of the parent forms obtained from the "I was very close to my Mother/Father" score were identified as -0.11 and -0.31 respectively. Seltmann and Wright (2013) discusses the concerns on the drawbacks of the mothers who are victims of sexual abuse in forming close relationship with their children that the formed relationships may result in sexual abuse (Seltmann & Wright, 2013). It has been considered that this case can take place as the word 'closeness' connotes not only the emotional closeness but also sexuality.…”

“…In the analysis of this step, baseline variables, including mothers’ age, childhood abuse history (sexual and physical abuse), drug use (whether using hard drugs or polysubstance), mothers’ homeless experiences (whether they ran away from home before the age of 18 years), treatment sessions attended, and participation of multiple children versus only target child in the treatment, were controlled. Research shows that mothers’ childhood abuse history, homeless experiences, and drug use are associated with their parenting behaviors and interaction with children (Crawford, Trotter, Hartshorn, & Whitbeck, 2011; Lang et al, 1999; Seltmann & Wright, 2013; Slesnick, Feng, Brakenhoff, & Brigham, 2014). Moreover, younger mothers experience greater parenting stress compared to older mothers (Brooks-Gunn & Chase-Lansdale, 1995), and parenting stress is associated with increased psychological control perceived by children (Putnick et al, 2008).…”
