“…In the analysis of this step, baseline variables, including mothers’ age, childhood abuse history (sexual and physical abuse), drug use (whether using hard drugs or polysubstance), mothers’ homeless experiences (whether they ran away from home before the age of 18 years), treatment sessions attended, and participation of multiple children versus only target child in the treatment, were controlled. Research shows that mothers’ childhood abuse history, homeless experiences, and drug use are associated with their parenting behaviors and interaction with children (Crawford, Trotter, Hartshorn, & Whitbeck, 2011; Lang et al, 1999; Seltmann & Wright, 2013; Slesnick, Feng, Brakenhoff, & Brigham, 2014). Moreover, younger mothers experience greater parenting stress compared to older mothers (Brooks-Gunn & Chase-Lansdale, 1995), and parenting stress is associated with increased psychological control perceived by children (Putnick et al, 2008).…”
